Tabanan is the capital town and name of a regency of Bali. Areas of Tabanan regency are in Central Bali while other areas would be more regularly regarded as part of West Bali. Tabanan area is where the key places of interest for visitors are found.
The coastal areas in the south were not really known by visitors because of a lack of infrastructure however these have been progressively being developed over the years, and there are now some great accommodation options available.
Tabanan has amazing rolling green landscapes, hills and more importantly the magnificent Mount Batukaru, Bali's second highest. The town of Mengwi has a long and rich history connected to its royal family, and the best modern day display of this is the marvelous temple complex at Taman Ayun.
